Stealership wants $$$ to diagnose misfire. Car is under warranty! Help!!!!
We have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra with 85,300 miles, and still under warranty. It throws a P0303 code (misfire cylinder 3). It shakes VIOLENTLY when it happens. But at the dealership, the code wasn't showing so they told me they couldn't do anything unless we spent $320 to have them road test it and diagnose it. I know those codes get stored, so it's frustrating that they won't hook up there scan tool to read the history. I've talked to Hyundai directly and they haven't been any help, even after mentioning the TSB: 20-FL-001H which is regarding the coil plugs having an inherent design flaw, and that there is a new design. They still won't help even after mentioning that. Any ideas????? Thanks for your support!
Well, I called an out-of-town dealership and was told that people from my city call there all the time because they constantly get the run around from our local dealership. We're done working with them and are going to get rid of the vehicle and buy a Toyota. Thanks to all who answered!!!!!!!
$320 for a road test and diagnose??? That's thievery.
If it turns out your warranty does not cover this problem take the car to a good independent mechanic for diagnosis (no dealers or chain shops).
If you don't have your own scan tool you could have the car checked at an auto parts store (most will scan it for free) and take a photo of any stored codes found.
Check the fine print on your warranty. Hyundai's much advertised 10-year/100K-mile engine warranty may not cover peripheral items such as ignition coils. (The dealers and the company will generally do their best to weasel out of warranty coverage.)
I do have my own scan tool. P0303. They won't diagnose it. It could be fuel injectors, spark plugs, coil packs, wiring, computer, etc. I don't know why they won't.
You might want to tray another Hyundai dealer.
