Hi Scotti
I am looking to get a used Forester for my daughters 1st car. I asked my insurance agent some general questions about rates and Subaru came up. The one thing he said that I found intriguing was a warning. The cars are considered safe but if there is any hint that the car was in a flood the car will get totaled or get declared un-insurable. It's the only brand with that distinction. Other brands can be flooded and repaired but not Subaru. Is it because of the boxer engine?
Maybe, but I would consider any flooded car to be unrepairable and would certainly never buy one.
Yeah, the heads are low down on the sides, rather than at the top. Although most Subarus have a small lift, so really it's about a wash. But whatever, its whatever the bean counters, I'm sorry, "actuaries", say.
I have no intention of buying a flooded car. I was wondering why Subaru was being singled out as more susceptible to damage in a flood. After some research it seems all the workings are low or under the car when compared to other brands.
Any body wanting to to chime in is welcome.
Don't buy any flooded car. It's not only the engine that may be bad. Electrical stuff could be damaged and you can't tell until issues start to pop up and that's too late.
