Subaru Impreza Check Engine Light

Hi Scotty, love your YouTube channel, I'm addicted ... I only wish I'd found it BEFORE I bought the worst car I've ever owned in my life.  So, I have a 2011 Subaru Impreza with a 2.5L (non WRX, non Turbo). Im a commuter and being in Northern Ontario Canada, I wanted the AWD. I've had it for about 3 months now, its a creaky, leaky turd but I'm stuck with it for now. Anyhow, when I tromp on the gas my check engine light goes on (which also on Subaru's as I discovered DISABLES the cruise control) so for as long as the CEL is on, you have NO cruise control ... STUPID!

So I spent 30 dollars and bought an OBDII reader and when I plug it in I got the dreaded P0420 error...do you have ANY advice for me at all aside from driving this car off a cliff (not while I'm in it) as to where I should start??  Im reading this can be something simple to thousands of dollars in a new Catalytic converter...and I do NOT trust dealerships!!

Appreciate any tips.

Thanks!

PF From Canada
