Long story short the decision comes down to one of these 2 vehicles.

Will be purchasing new.

And it absolutely has to be automatic so either a Kia cvt/ivt vs Subaru cvt

Thoughts?

Subaru for me. I can't bring myself to buy a Korean car knowing full well they have issues.

Sure, Subaru CVT has their share of problems, but a Kia is basically a Hyundai. No thanks.

Subaru all the way. Imprezas are impressive little cars.

Subaru, manuel prefered.

Kia will last 100k but Subaru much better.

Unfortunately my wife does not drive manual so it has to be an automatic which is partly why I’m wondering which cvt transmission between these 2 cars is better/more reliable

Between those it doesn't really matter they are both not the best the older one's were more reliable like the 4 speeds from 10 years ago the newer CVT's are just weak Subaru can't make good CVT's unfortunetly.

Equal costs?  It makes no difference, just curious.

"A 2019 iSeeCars study named the Impreza as the lowest-depreciating sedan in the United States after five years."

Yes the trims I’m looking at are basically equal costs

My best advice for you about a Kia, of any model, is to buy through dealers, keep exact records. because one day you will need to use manufacturers warranty and they will try to deny service because you did not follow their instructions for maintenance.

I have not dealt with Subaru but The people I have spoken with speak highly of them.

I bought a old 2013 Soul and have had no problems at all.  Even my dealing with the dealership about a steering warranty part was quick and easy.  They even gave me a spare part in case it goes out again.  But, every dealership can be nice when trying to empty your pockets.

Even if I buy through a dealer; am I required to get the vehicle serviced by the dealership or is it ok if I get it serviced elsewhere as long as I keep the service records for the vehicle? For the warranty.

You are free to treat your property as you see fit. Service! Do not service! Do it yourself! Do it at the first shade tree you see! What I am saying is major services are more powerful when proven at dealerships. That way they cannot say you did not use proper parts, at proper times, according to proper protocol. Especially true on cars like Nissan that will for sure have transmission problems or other such "risky" brands.
