If you absolutely had to choose, Would you get A 2018 Subaru Legacy 2.5 auto or 2018 Mazda 6 2.5 auto?
I would choose Mazda.
1. They make longer lasting Skyactiv automatic transmissions than Subaru's CVT
2. I also don't need AWD
Neither are bad, Toyota raised its stake on Subaru to 20% and owns 5% of Mazda, and has had a deal with both a while now. I personally like the Mazda better though.
It would depend on my needs.
If I needed AWD, Legacy. (Subaru's speciality)
If going by looks alone, I'd go with the 6. (Best looking styling, IMHO.)
If I am doing fast cornering, Legacy. (Lower center of gravity.)
If I am doing the maintenance, the 6. (Easier access to spark plugs. Legacy you need to jack up the engine.)
Either would be great.
Not sure if you are talking about longevity or not, but from a longevity point of view I would go for the Mazda. This also assumes you don’t need AWD! I also am not a fan of any CVTs which that Legacy has. Both were offered in manual, so I’d opt for that as well.
Depends if you want AWD. If that’s your driving force Subaru is the king of AWD. And honestly the 4 banger BOXERs are pretty decent. CVT transmissions is what is hurting Subaru right now. But more and more Japanese manufacturers as well as others are starting to take CVTs more seriously now so it’s kind of getting harder to steer clear of those with newer vehicles.
