2012 Toyota Tacoma
96k miles, 4.0 V6, double cab, long bed, 2wd, stock suspension.
I have replaced the carrier bearing, u joints, and transmission mount with OEM parts. I also had the trans fluid replaced with World Standard, OEM fluid and rear diff fluid was changed about 4k miles ago.
Upon acceleration from about 0mph-10mph i get a shudder that shakes the entire truck. This is even worse when towing. I'm at a loss and can't figure out what it could be.
@sir_ryan
You said you "replaced with World Standard, OEM fluid." What was in there before? Were you running like Valvoline before?
@sir_ryan
You don't indicate if it's a manual or automatic. If manual it sounds like your clutch is the issue. If automatic it may be the torque converter.
Automatic, world standard was in before.
I know the Fj cruisers had a recall on some of the driveshafts but according to the files the time to claim the recall is over. It states the entire drives haft has to be replaced. Something in the housing I believe. Mine they stated was fine so they wouldn't replace it.
@gamatt72
I see, but if it's a driveshaft issue, wouldn't that cause vibrations at higher speeds like on the highway? Not from 0-10mph? It's an auto, maybe it's a 1 gear issue? I'm not a transmission specialist so I'm taking stabs in the dark here. I have been in Ford trucks/vans with bad driveshafts and you'll know it when you hit like around 50mph.
I agree with the drive shaft issue. Just curious have you tried running the car up on a lift?? No load on the suspension just to see if it lessens the vibration or not?? Have some one run it from a stop to say 40-50 mph?? Might be worth a check.
Acceleration and "loaded" shudder is caused by driveshaft pinion angles. Lower the carrier bearing assembly about 1 & 1/2". That lessens the pinion angle.
Or swap driveline out to one piece driveshaft, 2 u-joints.
Deceleration shudder is a software issue. Dealer can re-flash.
