Hey Scotty, i have heard you mention that commercial vehicles are better made than civilian ones. You also had a video spotlighting the ones made for the police. I also know you are not a GM fan. So my question is, would a 10yr old Tahoe PPV with 100k mileage be more reliable than its civilian cousin of the same age and mileage? Are these worth looking at?
Thanks!
This depends on the history of the PPV you are looking at.
Was it a patrol unit? Those can run for multiple shifts non-stop and be driven by multiple officers...a generally hard life. Another thing you want to know is how many idle hours are on the motor. 1 idle hour is the equivalent of 25 to 30 driven miles. Some squad cars have thousands of hours.
IF you can find a vehicle that was used for administrative duty and has low hours they can be good cars. However, be careful as some PPV's have damage to the undercarriage and other hidden issues. They also aren't worth anything as they are noted as having been used for law enforcement purposes.
For longevity and reliability, plus comfort, look at the civilian model. If you are an officer and need the hook ups for all the equipment so you can use the PPV for a second job working security, etc. then the used PPV makes sense.
Most guys only buy the PPV cars because they want to feel like a cop. Since impersonating an officer is a felony charge, however, I would definitely fight that urge.
