Testing fuel injectors at home

Hey Scotty,

Is there a way to test the spray pattern of my BMW K100  fuel injectors at home?

It has an in-line 4cyl, 1000cc, water cooled, fuel injected engine-- just like a car engine. My bike was running great till it sat for a couple of years and now has hard time starting up. When it does, it runs good in neutral, but it dies if i give it more gas. Also, the fuel/air mixture might need adjusting, but from the spark plugs i can tell that i might have problems with one cylinder in particular. I checked compression, and it's all good.

I wanted to share with you, that another favorite youtube channel of mine, project farm, tested a bunch of stop-leak products and AT-205 came out on top. https://youtu.be/fqD4Ha766w8  Nice to see that their test result coincide with your experience !!

Thank you for all the work you do!!

AT-205 came out on top.

The most interesting part to me was all the damage it did to the steel bearing, and how it swelled up new o-rings to larger than their intended size. (hence density must decrease).  This confirmed my suspicions ... these products can inflict more harm than good. I will continue to fix leaks the way I have ... correctly.

Todd is a smart guy and I completely agree with him when he says at the end of the video  ...

"I would never use a stop-leak product in a vehicle that didn't have an active leak. I would rather make a proper repair."

It would have to be a pretty severe, and unfixable leak for me to willingly cause this kind of damage.

Thanks for posting the vid.

The swelling with AT-205 was really interesting. We know that shrinkage in o-rings/gaskets leads to leaks. I would love to see a test with an over-expanded product to see how it performs.

I've seen transmission tear-down videos where owners have used these swelling additives. The o-rings literally pop out of their grooves and get shredded, or just lose strength and break down. (possibly from using too much)

I did see a Youtube video of a guy who pulled the entire fuel rail out of his engine, hooked it back up, and tested it that way. I wouldn't recommend it though.

At that cost, it's cheaper to have them rebuilt ... hahaha !

pretty much
