[Solved] Thinking of buying a 2005 Toyota Avensis 1.8VVTI

Hi Scotty,
Long time fan here from the UK, and I've been looking for a new (used) car since my unreliable piece of crap Peugeot has kicked the bucket and I've come across a 2005 Toyota Avensis for sale from a private seller, I know this model wasn't sold in the US but it seems to be the Europe equivalent of the Corolla/Camry and I was wondering if you knew anything about them? I know they were assembled in England and this one has the 1ZZ-FE 1.8L VVTI engine, with a manual transmission and 80K miles on the clock, for £1200 (equivalent to 1600USD). I'd definitely get it checked out before purchase, the seller states it has been serviced regularily, and the mileage is genuine according to it's yearly inspection history. Do you know anything about the reliability of them? I'd love a Camry but they're rare as hens teeth over here, and the Corollas here are only sold as hatchbacks, but I want a sedan for more room and a comfier ride.

Many Thanks
Matt.

Hello,

The 05 Avensis is a good car,

Things to look out for are the front shocks leak,

Rear metal brake pipe rust where they join the rubber flexi hose,

Headlight go opaque, but you can clean them up easily

Some early models did like oil.

Hope this Helps.

All the Best.

Thanks for the reply, went to look at it today and it was a shed, had been in a front end smash that wasn't repaired properly, nevermind the search continues lol
