Timing chain guide question

Topic starter
  • 2014 435k 40k mile engine. I replaced vvt motor for the eccentric shaft to control the valves.
in the process is smashed the upper timing guide not terribly, but the top piece of the guide like an arm that hold the Chain on the guide. I say hold but it’s it’s got some space in between to prevent jumping broke. How critical is it that I replace this before starting it. I would assume the tensioner is still able to hold the chain when I start it and build up oil pressure. I have photos.
  • email me at [personal information redacted] for the photos. Like I said the guide is great shape I just snapped the top arm piece off.

Please do not post personal contact information, it is a very bad idea here or any other public forum. No one from here will email you or contact you in any way other than responses here. (See the topic "READ THIS FIRST - Forum Guide" posted near the top of the main page for photo instructions.)

Additionally, please provide your vehicle's details as requested in the posting instructions. We don't even know what kind of vehicle or engine you are dealing with.

Regardless, if the timing chain guide is damaged in any way I would replace it before starting the engine.
