Scotty, I have never changed auto transmission fluid before and I'm debating on doing it or having it done. BUT... is it even necessary? Will trouble arise if I just leave it alone? It still looks clean on the stick and transmission works flawlessly. However, the manufacturer suggest changing it every 45k miles. Same with transfer case and differentials.

Yes, to get the most life out of the transmission. Scotty even mentions in the past to change every 30,000-40,000 miles so 45,000 miles you mention is OK. Even for “lifetime” transmissions you’d want to do that. Drain and Fill only, don’t Flush!

if you have to do it every 5 years it's not the end of the world
