Checked my oil today. Way over the F limit. My manual says if oil is over F line is no good. Must be between L and F. But my dipstick is waaay over F.
What now ? Car is rough vibration on idle, any connection. Scion tc 2006
Start with checking the oil level correctly (cold engine, parked on a flat surface). If it’s indeed over-full, drain out the excess.
If you haven’t changed it in a while, drain out everything now & then refill the correct quantity with the correct oil specification & pray that nothing is damaged.
For the rough idle, clean your idle air control valve (IAC), and watch Scotty’s video on how to make your car run better with a little spray cleaner. https://youtu.be/NWCKvU2FmDc

Had a cold recheck this morning but the reading is the same. It is overfilled. Haven't driven it much tho, maybe one full gas tank only so hopefully no significant damage been caused.
@inthrustwetrust
So I watched the second video too. This MAF is called vacuum switching valve on the Scion tc. The mechanic told me he cleaned the air intake valve but he didn't say if he cleaned the MAF. But I assume he did. He also mentioned the throttle body needs replacement but that it is expensive so I opted out. The cleaning did help reduce idle rough but he also changed 3 mounts and introduced vibration of different kind. The cabin started shaking. Then I added injector cleaner and the cabin shake stopped. However the rough idle persists and noticeable when my foot is on the brake at the traffic light, especially if on a slight hill.
Next suspect is spark plugs but I need to test drive to see if rpm hesitates in traffic light. If rpm is solid then it can't be spark plugs.
Next suspect is rear mount. Mechanic said it looks good tho so he didn't replace it.
Air filter is clean.
Cannot be timing belt as there is no bad metal noise plus the car is 30 000 miles only.
So either rear mount, or throttle body, or MAF not cleaned
@inthrustwetrust
At the end I might just have to live with it. Probably chose the wrong car for the wrong purpose. I needed a car that performs well in traffic. Instead I chose a car which performs well on the road but poor performance in heavy traffic, rough idles etc. On the road the Scion is zippy, fast car, semi-sport for its 4cylinder mass market class, but my needs in heavy traffic was simply wrong choice. Now I have to live with rough idle
@hixbozo
Do you have access to a scan tool? Sounds like you need to have a look at the live data while the car is in idle.
The fact that he overfilled your oil, instantly makes me recommend you visit another reputed mechanic. Ask around the people you trust, I’m sure somebody somewhere knows a good mechanic in your area.
You should drain out the extra to prevent damage.
Vibration is unrelated.
Why is it over full?
@carlos
No idea. Must ask previous owner 😖. Is it normal. Except unpleasant rough idle haven't noticed anything wrong
Ugh. Change the oil, and check out the videos and comments the Moderator (experts) posted.
Good luck! May be nothing bad.
If its over full you get more comming into cam cover usually a breather pipe goes into throttle body empty some out oil i mean to yhe correct level buy a tin of carbourettor spray and clean yhrottle body inside and out clean butterfly flap when you first try and start it it will run like crap for a bit untill cleaner burns away try this it only costs pennys for spray as a build up of oil will make it run like crap
@ivanhoo
I added now Lucas cylinder cleaner. We see what happens. But the throttle cleaning did work. The whole air intake system was violently shaking under the hood and stopped after cleaning it. So let's see if cylinders are dirty and the cause of rough idle
The valves and everything will be crapped up not every one likes this stuff but try putting a petrol addative in your tank it will clean injectors valve,s cylinder ect give me a thumbs up if it works ok
So I just went for a test drive and can confirm that RPM is solid during idle in drive gear. So it cannot be faulty spark plugs.
I also tested the roughness in drive and neutra idles. As expected in drive gear the roughness is higher but here is the interesting part. It is rough and vibrates even in neutral.
Although the video below is not mine, the amount of vibration in the cabin is exactly like this guy shows in his video. I did the bottle test too, exact same. And this amount is in neuteal. Gets bigger in drive

It is very annoying, makes me and passengers uncomfortable and sometimes I can feel my teeth shaking from the vibration.
I should also say that this vibration was introduced by the mechanic changing 3 mounts. The old problem was vibration present only in the front panel but cabin never shaked like this. Only when he put the new mounts the cabin started vibrating like that. The front panel stopped shaking, but as if the vibration got shifted from one location to another. Bad mounts even new ?
@hixbozo
He might have failed to tighten down one of the mounts.
I was thinking actually that he might have tightened the mounts too much. I asked him if he torqued them. He said yes he torqued. But I failed to ask if he torgued with a gun or manually. Because mounts should not be gunned too tight.
I am considering a swap if someone is interested for giving me another reasonable car. This Scion is fun on the road, has only 30K mileage but needs a mechanic to play with it to fix its rough idle. It is probably easy in competent hands but I am not mechanic and just wasting money on mechanics.
