Got a persistent issue on my truck. For the past 5 years my truck has been working perfectly; never gave me any problems until one day I tried to start it and would only crank. I tried troubleshooting in accordance with Haynes repair manual. I replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump (I check to see if the pump would “hum” with the key in the on position but was silence, after replacing it and putting power to it still would not hum unless the key is in the start position) distributer, engine control module, spark plugs, and ignition harnesses; still would not start. I tested the primary and secondary coils in the ignition coil but were in specs according to the repair manual, but decided to replace it anyway. The engine finally started so I guess the ignition coil was the culprit after all. After driving the truck for a bit I noticed it sometimes struggle to start and the engine turns off over half the time in stop lights or driving slowly in parking lots. Every time I’m at a stop light I have to slightly depress the gas pedal with the brakes applied just to keep it from shutting off and the same action when driving slowly in parking lots. I even check the timing but its in the correct degrees.

The only time the truck operates smoothly is when I take it to the highway. Got any ideas what is causing the engine to turn off like that? It became stressful driving it. Thinking about getting rid of the thing.
