What is the secret to applying touch-up paint without making it look even worse than the minor scratch that it started out with?
If its hairline scratch only deep into the overcoat, just use a buffer and some compound.
If you can see the difference in color, well truth be told, you have to sand off the clear coat, apply paint, apply clear coat.
If you can see the base metal or the base plastic, sand off a larger area, carefully use blending method using a spray gun, sometimes rattle can will work too. apply 2pac primer, base paint, clear coat. Compound the surrounding to blend in. And polisher to shine if you like. Do not wash the area for 6 weeks. 4 hours drying for primer, 2 hours drying for paint and clear coat.
For whatever paint you are going to use, it need to be custom mix.
In general, what ever paint you apply , it will be brighter cos the old areas had dirt embedded in it.
Painting car is a skill, lots of investment even for a small spot.
Remember to wear a painting mask for safety.
The exclusion to all this if you get a stone chip. just get a marker off the shelf.
Please post a picture of the damage.
This is the best information I have ever seen on using touch up paint. Good luck.
You need a new girlfriend for starters. I wouldn't be tolerating that stuff for anybody.
As for the paint, it is vital you get the correct color. Time and patience are required to make it come out right.
From the sound of it, it would seem you were dealing with a pretty large area of damage. Touch up paint is really only good for small items like rock chips or the occasional door dings. You can not use it to touch up a bumper that's been in a fender bender in most cases unless the damage area is extremely small.
I'm only human, so get that straight from the start. I take my girl out for a bite to eat with a couple of friends. After a light brunch, I suggest that she retouches her lipstick; I get a light but not so subtle slap on the cheek ( like you're being are rude)? She touched up her lipstick with the two friends that had to accompany her to the restroom and she came back looking gorgeous.
Well a couple of weeks later I notice that her car has a very minor fender bender (just a scratch), I offer to fix it. I spent the better part of a day matching up the perfect touch-up paint and trying to make it look better.
Long story short, it turned out looking worse, and yes she slapped me again! Now I have to go spend a small fortune to get it professionally fixed.
Is this touch-up paint just a scam, or do you need two guys to help you touch it up?
