Hello Scotty,

I went to the dealership a few days ago and ordered a 2022 Toyota 4Runner sr5 with part time 4wd. Is a SR5 2022 a good buy, are Toyota still making reliable engines, transmission and underbody? Should I be worry about any thing ?

Realize no one can predict how a brand new vehicle will hold up but this generation has been out now since model year 2010 so we’re 13 model years in now and should be as refined as it gets.  That being said you never know behind the scenes if something was changed/updated.  If it were me - I would have gone with the 2019 model year or older.

Model year 2020+ introduced Toyota’s Safety Sense system and that’s just more things that can potentially break over time.  In an accident it can be very expensive to fix.

Model year 2022 introduced their smart key system with push button as standard on all trims.

2019+ and older had none of those additional “features” and less things to go wrong.

That being said, for a 2022 model year SUV that can also go off trail, if you don’t need 3rd row and ok with the gas mileage, then you could not have done better.

You’re out here buying ~$40,000 toys, like I buy my $0.50 instant noodles -

We both read the reviews after purchase.

Like @Daywalker said.

This model is 13 years old at the very core. Which isn’t a bad thing. In terms of the engine and transmission, you probably have the most robust and sorted combination you can get.

Generations usually only last 4-5 years. This generations is 13 years old. There must be some reliability in this puppy if it is still selling like hotcakes despite its age.
