I have a 2003 Toyota Celica T-sport/GTS. After letting the oil run a little low it has developed a noise I presume is valve tick. I have replaced the oil and oil filter but the noise persists. The car only has 80k miles on it so not at all nearing the end of its life. I've been told there's not much I can do about the noise as it's an involved process to remedy it. Is there truly nothing that can be done? I hate to be reminded of my stupid mistake.
How low did the oil get and for how long? Did the noise get any quieter when you changed your oil? If you ran it low enough for long enough, more than likely you have damaged the valve train. I would say that if it is a quiet tick than I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it is loud I would recommend getting the top part of the motor rebuilt. The tick is never going to completely go away unless the damaged parts are replaced. I would also monitor your oil on each oil change to make sure no metal is present. My buddy had a Honda one time that ticked like crazy and burned oil. It had over 300,000 miles on it and still ran just fine. He just had to keep up with it. Hope this helps and good luck.
