Greetings, I have a 1986 Toyota Corolla GTS (manual) with a 4AGE blue top motor that was rebuilt by the previous owner about a year ago. The mileage on the chassis is about 200,000 miles. Engine is unknown. The engine works pretty well with good response however when I rev it up to 5000 rpm in first gear the engine sputters and starts to loose power, but when I shift it to second gear the engine freely goes past 5000rpm with no issues. This issue only appears in first gear only, in all other gears the engine runs fine. What could this be? I also noticed the check engine light is on but when I try to get a trouble code I get no codes. Many thanks for the help.

Well get a good mechanic a couple high level scan tool and if it still doesn't show codes you have some type of wiring or computer problem
