Toyota dealers to stop servicing if over 100k miles

Apparently the Toyota dealerships nationwide are set to stop offering service on older model Toyota Lexus if over 100k miles. I just left the Toyota dealership in Henderson, NC and I was berated and talked down to by the head service manager for driving a piece of crap Tundra 2007 model with 224k miles. He said it should never have been brought to them for service and I should feel ashamed of driving a vehicle they made with over 200k. I paid them $400 to diagnose why my abs skid control system shut down. They wanted another $1500 in parts and labor to fix it. I put in a $14 wheel speed sensor from Amazon and it is fixed. I disputed being charged $400 for an incorrect diagnosis.  A partial refund would have been fair. Instead I was berated for driving an older truck and staying out of auto debt so I can pay for my kids college tuition. Dishonest to the core.

Why even bother going to the stealership in the first place?  I could understand if it’s under warranty, but beyond that it’s best to take to an independent, honest mechanic around you (assuming, of course, you can find one).

I haven’t gone to a stealership for any service in over 26 years.

Write a formal complain to Toyota's head office, tell them they insulted you, ripped you off, and gave you the wrong diagnosis.

I'd demand Toyota to take action.

Also no clue how you haven't done anything to the head service manager, I'd show him "where crabs hibernate".

I guess you love punishment.  You keep going to a dealer.

Why going to dealerships when the charge you more and you have much less satisfaction with the results?

That service  manager is an idiot. All the dealers are the same. Here at Ralph Hayes in Anderson, I took my 2018 corolla to them for a couple of oil changes. They were always telling me I needed some other service. Like when it had 10,000 miles on it they were saying I needed injector cleaning, Ya right! For $ 150.00 and they would do nothing. I don't think they would even pour a can of cleaner in the tank.

i bought a new car from them, must have gotten a great deal as they tried to remove the floor mats and owners manual when i picked it up lol

So that's your side of what happened.

The problem with these threads is none of us were there, so we don't know what actually played out. I have a gut feeling more went on than OP is telling. It would make no sense for a service manager to just tell someone, "Well, you're dumb for driving an old truck." I don't see that happening, sorry.

I think some words were exchanged on BOTH sides and now you want to smear them because you didn't get a refund. I openly admit I could be wrong, but it happens all the time. {black}:suspicious:

Sounds like dealer modus operandi. Well, not the berating part, but rather charging crazy amounts for incorrect diagnosis, charging even crazier amounts for an improper fix, and of course, trying to get you out of your old car and into a new car.

All of these things have happened to me at Toyota, Honda, and BMW dealerships, except for the berating part.

I put a complaint through for the first time in 30 years of driving toyota with national office. Had an apology and a promise to make it right an hour later saying I should never have been treated that way and deserved a accurate diagnosis of my problem I paid for. We will see.

Both independent Toyota shops in my area also wanted $400 labor to diagnose the abs and skid lights on and bouncing speedometer so there was absolutely no difference. It never threw a speed sensor code. It threw a can bus no communication code. So they only guess the same I can with my own code reader.  I guess master mechanic means absolutely nothing.

Maybe the service manager had a bad night with his Mama!! Stealerships are all about volume and revenue! Sounds like there was a heated exchange to me BUT that doesnt give the service manager to act as he did. I would report it and move on, move on.

Well it must just be your local Toyota dealership in Henderson, because the Toyota dealerships down here in the rest of NC have no issues working on older cars.
