Toyota "Extra Cost Color"

Some paint colors on Toyotas (and probably other brands) cost more than others. For example, a white car costs about $450 more than a blue car.

Do these extra cost colors have a better and/or longer lasting paint job than the normal (no extra cost) colors?

Are the materials just more costly for some paint colors?

Are you getting anything for the cost differential (besides a different color)?

You're getting a "special color" that's it. The Toyota color you mention isn't a plain white. Plain white is no extra cost...Windchill Pearl has the upcharge as do several other of their colors depending on model. So, whether it's a pearl or metallic, there are plenty of mfg's that have "special colors" for extra $$.

I can never figure out the paint color pricing no matter what the manufacturer.

For example, with Tesla, black used to be the standard color, and white they up charged. But now white is the standard color.

Same with other makes. They seem to switch it up which they up charge for.

For some paints: Higher repair costs.

I love the white metallic on new Toyota cars BUT with body shops nowadays failing to match shades of white - I assume they can't match metallic looks either.

Additionally if it's not a standard color, then getting used body panels is going to be an issue.

BUT IMO, it can be with the price for the car to look better and standout compared to everyone's black, gray, and white cars. (Might be different where you live, where I do it's something crazy like 90% are greyscale - so cars painted in cool colors really standout)

Usually not. It's usually purely cosmetic, but it can make quite a big cosmetic difference if that is something that matters to you.

Unless we are talking about metallic flakes, special effects, two tones or things like that - not more than a few bucks or most likely a few cents.

It's the materials that they use. Having a car with a specific color will not increase the value of it. If it was something like a Red Mustang GT, then it's another story.

No. They just sign a multi-million dollar contract with a paint company on certain products.

It's like going to a restaurant and ordering a custom meal.

It is what ever the market will bare. While their might be a small amount of difference due to the pigment or the application process between colors the extra cost for so called special colors is exorbitant. If you want that color your going to pay. Especially on a popular brand like Toyota.
