[Solved] How do I fix oil consumption

I've got a 2005 Scion xB with the 1.5L motor (same motor as Prius), it has about 250K miles and its been consuming around a quart of oil every 500 miles, no leaks anywhere, only code i ever get is p0128 every once in a blue moon. It still runs great, other than a slight rough start if it sits for more than a day (plugs probably fouled from burning oil). I've kept up with oil changes every 5K miles (Mobil 1 synthetic and genuine Toyota filter) since i bought it 7 years ago with 140K miles. PCV valve was replaced not long ago (genuine Toyota OEM). I'm assuming oil is bypassing the rings, is there an old trick i can try to loosen the piston oil rings in case something is stuck before i have to do a re-ring and cylinder hone? Or is there something i may be overlooking?

Considering it has 1/4 of a million miles I would just keep a jug of oil in the trunk

I do 😂

You don't do just a "re-ring and cylinder hone" on an engine with that kind of age and mileage on it if you want a good result. Chances are the bores are out of spec and would need to be bored oversize and you'd need oversize pistons and rings to match. Then you have 1/4 million miles on those crank bearings, crank may need to be ground undersize. Then there are the valves to contend with. Before you know it you're looking at a full engine rebuild with all the machine work ($$$$), hardly worth it.

You might try the ATS Carbon Clean product that Scotty has talked about to potentially remove carbon from stuck rings if that's part or all of the problem.
