2000 toyota corolla le automatic 105k miles. Just replaced speed sensor, tranny fluid and filter now got code p0770 "Shift Solenoid E" car shifts late (if i floor it it would shift at 6200 rpm instead of 6000 rpm) no noises. Car drives fine otherwise.
Its because that old fluid was keeping what's left of solenoid working properly and its why Scotty says not to change out the fluid on older vehicles like that because it can cause problems. But shifting late all things considered isn't a bad thing... could have been way worse. You'll get slightly worse gas mileage but it's not going to hurt anything. Just baby the trans and hopefully get many more miles out of her.
I changed the fluid and filter 800 miles before this started happening. I got stuck in the snow was revving the car hard. Car threw a code for speed sensor so i bought a cheap ebay one. Do you think that speed sensor shorted something? After thati got the shift codes. I need to get the car inspected soon. Should i replace the solenoid or look for a new car?
I checked and it looks like you have to drop the transmission pan to get to the solenoid and from what I found the part is pretty expensive at around 300$ BUT once you have the pan off it looks like it's pretty simple to replace and to be honest whoever replaced to fluid last could have just accidentally unplugged the solenoid and you might not even need a new one. Def have that looked at and see but I don't think you'll need to get a new car or anything. worst case you might to replace the solenoid.
It was actually 8000 miles not 800. When i bought the car it had the original tranny and coolant from factory. The coolant was black and the tranny fluid was clear and smelled burnt. I probably didnt need to change it but i did drop the pan put on a wix filter gasket and put walmart high mileage full synthetic atf in car. 3 quarts. I didnt see any solenoids. I went to a shop he said you have to drop the pan and the trans valve body to swap the solenoids. The car drove fine until i got stuck. One shop i called thought it could be the torque converter. When i rev in neutral i hear a faint flutter sound at 3k rpm but not too noticeable. Do you think i should spend a couple hundred on the solenoid or just put a full new transmission in my car for 1300 ?
