I have a 2005 toyota tundra SR5 trim with 259,000 miles. Truck started to throw smoke thru exhaust, took it to mechanic and said it was a head gasket but when engine oil is checked lever remain normal however the power steering oil keeps emptying out and there is no leak under the truck ever. What could it be causing all the smoke to pour out the tail pipe? Truck starts and runs fine other than for the smoke.
@pablo
What color is the smoke?
Blueish
Anybody done any work on it recently? Putting mech hat aside, logic would say your burning PS oil. Mech hat on, that can't happen, hence recent work/connections/vsc lines.
And you don't always find water in the oil, losing any coolant?
@hillbilly
Only work done was a new PS pump but this was about a year ago, oil has no sign of water and coolant seems just fine and at proper level. I did notice oil in the throttle body.
How much oil? As I recall the pcv connection is on the manifold, the TB shouldn't be oily per se. Sure it's oil?
Have you disconnected the 2 coolant hoses to the TB? Let's check this and see if the coolant passages in the TB are good (plug one and put a couple psi on the other and see if it holds.
Get a diagram for your vacuum lines and make sure everything is connected to the correct barb. Blue smoke is general NOT a head gasket. Something fishy is going on there. Is the mechanic who diagnosed the head gasket the same person who put the PS pump in?
