Buy Toyota Tacoma or Ford Lightning?

Mr. Scotty,

I plan to invest in a new truck within the next couple years, either a Toyota Tacoma or a Ford Lightning. I know you are not a big fan of electric vehicles but I found that Toyota Tacomas are having reliability issues and they are now built in Mexico. Which would you buy? Please don't say neither.

Thanks

Toyota, all day long, no matter where they are built.  I wouldn't buy any Ford product made after 2005.  They have become famous for their constant recalls and incredibly poor quality.

I don't think they are less reliable than a Ford.

Modern vehicles are going to be disappointing compared to peak reliability from many years back.  That being said, Ford quality/reliability is significantly worse than Toyota’s and now we are talking about a whole new EV platform from Ford:  what can possibly go wrong and who is going to work on it when things go wrong?  Hardly any mechanic (even at Ford) know how to work on EVs.  Ford electronics has never been a strong suit, and I don’t expect their new platform to change that 180 degrees.

Between the two, I would still take a chance on the Tacoma.

Not one vote for Ford. I think I will be canceling my reservation.

Tacoma for sure, no question about it. I'd get other brand of pickup trucks before ever considering a Ford.

Brand new 2022 Tacoma with 7 miles. Timing chain snapped.

Remarks from Toyota techs: Be more worried about the valves on bank 1. The valve guides wear out prematurely, causing abnormal wear on valve seats which leads to loss of compression.

Do Mexicans love watching the Super Bowl, too?

Better believe it. Right after afternoon siesta.

They seem to love it!
