Did I make a good trade

I just Traded my 2006 Pontiac vibe (Toyota matrix) 218,000 miles automatic for a 2014 Subaru Forester 52,000 miles manual from Carvana. I got 225 bucks for the vibe. The total cost of the Subaru is around 20gs. I depreciated the vibe’s value on the trade because the exhaust has nearly rusted out from sitting on the lot. I had to clap it twice right before the muffler. The passenger side drive shaft was on the way out. It was rattling inside the transmission housing for maybe 20 thousand miles, and the transmission fluid was never changed for at least as long as I had it. I bought the vibe for 65 hundred bucks with 65 thousand miles. How did I Fair?

You sold a running driving TOYOTA for $225???

Why would you even sell any running and driving car for $225?

cost of the Subaru is around 20gs

A NEW ONE IS IN THE 20GS RANGE, NOT ONE THAT'S 8 YEARS OLD!

How did I Fair?

You sold a perfectly running Toyota for less than what the scrap yard offers, and that's easily a $6k car in it's condition.

And bough an old, very much used car, for close the price of a NEW ONE!

The Subaru should be OK with the manual transmission since their weakest part is the CVT automatic, though I hope you had a mechanic check it out before purchase. Sounds like an awful lot of money for a 9-year-old Forester though - about the price of a new Corolla.

I financed the car and after all the taxes and fees it came to 20gs. The cars cost different prices depending on the distance of the delivery as-well. The listing price was 16,000. I have not had it check out. I know that I’m rolling the dice, however I almost rolled the dice on a Jeep Compass sooo… call me a bit of a dummy at times {black}. Thankfully that deal fell through and I was able to hear your words of wisdom in time. The car seem to be running good nothing out of the ordinary. Would like to have the break fluid changed at the dealership at my first oil change due date just to make sure nothing else alarming comes up. I am planning on doing oil changes and routine maintenance myself. I am no professional, but am no stranger to car maintenance and repair either. If you wanted to look at it and drive it I’m in CT, I’m just on a tight budget.

Hope it turns out OK, you do have a better chance with the Forester than the Compass for sure. Scotty is currently in Rhode Island, if you want to contact him instructions for doing so are in the FAQ but I'm pretty sure he's booked up for this trip.
