Hi Folks,
Car: Lexus IS220D, 2006, 60,000miles, 2AD-FHV engine diesel.
I inherited these problems and would admit if I was stupid, and was also smart enough to know I was stupid. So the previous owner has a trailer hitch, and he's piggybacked a positive wire to the horn fuse (just pushed it in) and then to a connector on the fusebox. I don't know what that connector is. If I pull the wire out, the horn and full beam headlights stop working. You can still flash the headlights though, just not toggle them.
If I push the wire back in everything goes back to normal. The reason this is all an issue though is I've got a prasitic drain. Is the car ruined?.
Lemme just try to add a pic here:
Thanks. Just occured to me he might have distorted the fuse socket by pushing that wire in - will report back. Also in the pic, I disconnected the wire, taped it, and tucked it away where I hope it wont blow the car up.
Edit: Notes on pic a bit small. From left: wire taped up that I haven't taken off. 2nd note: where wire was pushed in. 3rd note: Headlight fuse. 4th note (right) where a wire was spliced, soldered and cut - the original blue/white wire seems intact.
Personally, I would print out a schematic and draw on it what he's done, and then decide what to do from there.
Hopefully the writing can be read on the official diagram here:
It's that orange/terminal bit that's got me confused. But then I don't know the first thing about electrics anyway, and am assuming this is the trailer wiring as the trailer hitch is the only non-standard part on the car. And I assume this setup connects it to the brakes, turn signals, reversing, etc.
Thanks for the reply @MountainManJoe but electrics really isn't my thing. I know this is a family friendly forum, so I'll just say that looking at that schematic for me is like that scene in Armageddon where Steve Buscemi is shown those pics at his psych evaluation and all he sees is shapely women.
Come to think of it, I think I can see Pamela Anderson standing there next to Denise Richards. :d
then I guess you need to give it to someone who does.
