Should I change my ATF

Hey Scotty, I have a 2014 Toyota Sienna XLE rear wheel drive with an auto transmission. My wife and I bought the van new and now have 260,000 miles on it. I have changed the oil every 5,000 miles and done all the maintenance except I have never changed the transmission fluid. My question is should I change the transmission fluid?  We plan on keeping the van for many more years and have no plans of ever getting rid of it.

If you have never changed the trans fluid and filter in 260,000 miles, start looking for a new car now because I can guarantee that you will not have the Sienna for many more years.  You should have changed the fluid and filter 5 times by now.

Should I go ahead and change ASAP! It isn’t showing any signs of trouble and the maintenance manual I have didn’t have anything about changing transmission fluids. I even asked a local mechanic and he said it was maintenance free.

At this point it is probably very too late to change the transmission fluid and it can cause slipping.

There is no such thing as a maintenance free fluid or filter; maintenance free/lifetime fluid is a big lie. All of these fluids have a useful life and they need to be changed.

I just looked up the 2014 Sienna owners manual and it does state the amount of transmission fluid needed and the type it needs. So this means it has to be changed otherwise they wouldn't be mentioning such information.
