Should I replace this vibration dampener

2012 Ford Fusion

So, I ran over a Cinderblock going about 2 mph. I stopped once I was on top of it and stepped out to look at how to go about it. Mind I was backing up and was on my way to work. I saw it wasn’t really touching anything, but a vibration dampener on the lower link driver side. (Front). Well it ripped off, only being attached with a plastic colar to the bolt.  Part#AE5C-3C156-AA it looks like a Rubber doughnut weighs about half a pound. No other damage found. No shakiness in the wheel or pull when driving.

My question is: Is the use of this dampener just for sound, or does it have other importance that could lead to something more expensive without it.

It's a strut mount damper and yes you should replace it. Vibration doesn't just sound annoying, it makes things fall apart.

It absorbs torsional stresses created by the pistons' firing impulses that might otherwise damage the crankshaft.

@chucktobias It’s part of the control arm Assembly or general area of that. It still accomplishes Absorbing torsional stress caused by the pistons? It’s not an engine mount. Just a tad confused.

I would be amazed if a cinder block could up there and damage that 😆

Thought he was talking about the engine vibration damper. I've seen cars where that damper sits low enough that riding over a cinder block could damage it if you hit it just right.

@chucktobias - C'mon Man!

What can I say - when I hear "vibration damper" that's the part I automatically think of! I've replaced quite a few of 'em when the rubber damping material separates. I stand corrected!
