Hi Scotty, want to start off by saying I'm a huge fan and I have learned so much from you. My question is, how do you know when it's too late to change your transmission fluid? I bought a used 2009 Chevy Impala recently with 110k miles and not sure if the fluid has ever been changed. The transmission fluid is discolored with some black in it (burnt look). It's to my understanding that if you wait too late, then you can't change the fluid. I don't want to ruin the transmission by changing the fluid. Would love to hear your advise on it.
Follow-up question. Just how important is it to change the transmission fluid? I've spoke with multiple mechanics who have said they have never changed it in their own vehicles and they didn't really seem it was all the important. I know you have videos on this in the past, but would love to hear you dive further into it.
Maybe these "mechanics" you talked to don't keep a vehicle longer than 50,000 miles, when you're supposed to change the fluid and filter.
Unfortunately, considering the mileage, the chance you damage your transmission by changing the fluid is high.
