Hello!

I have a 96 Camry with 111,000 miles on.my transmission shifts a little rough. I’ve checked the fluid level and looks good. I was wondering the best way to accurately check the fluid level and was also wondering if the fluid level is correct what would be the problem. Thank you!

the best way to check the ATF level is the one stated in your car’s manual - the engineers that have created your car usually know best.

(might require you to idle your car prior to taking a measurement, etc.)

As far as the issue it self.
I’m not sure what’s your particular generation of Camry is (Toyota made 3 variants of it in 96) but sounds like it’s an XV20 with the second generation 4 speed automatic (A140 transmission instead of the legendary A40)

if you kept you ATF fluid clean, I’d inspect torque mounts and the car it self first.

if your ATF fluid was/is dirty then it might be your solenoids - that’s usually the only thing that’s causes issues on these gearboxes. On some occasions, the oil pump can go out but that’s quite rare.
