Transmission Wining

i drive a 2013 Ford Escape, with 169k miles on it. I drive 142 miles per day, 4 days per week. I recently broke down on my way home. The car would not drive anymore while I was at a light. The engine and battery works as normal as far as I can tell. A police officer and a tow truck driver/mechanic believes that the issue is with the transmission. They stated that the transmission will sometimes overheat and cause the car to shutdown to avoid damaging the transmission. They both recommended I flush the transmission and get new fluid. However, I took the car to the dealership, and explained the situation conveying what I was told by the cop and the tow truck guy. Long story short, after a diagnostic, they stated that the transmission needs to be replaced. Do I need a flush or a new transmission? It seems I am being upsold considering I just had a newish transmission installed by another dealership in 2018. Should I have the transmission flushed to see if that will resolve the issue or should I follow the dealership’s recommendation? Should I say “forget it” and just start saving for a new car since $8400 for a “new” transmission install costs more than what the car is worth? Thank you for your time.

I would not put any more money into that thing.
