Truck leaks

Scotty,

I just took my truck to the shop for a slight tranny and exhaust leak on my 93’ F-150 5.8 auto. The mechanic told me that they’re multiple leaks including oil, coolant, Power steering, and tranny onto my exhaust pipe after shutting off the truck (not much, but noticeable. I’ve kept up with my fluids including frequent oil changes. They said in order to pinpoint the leaks, they would need me to clean the engine and bring it back to them. How and where should I take it to make sure it’s done correctly without causing more problems from water and engine electronics? Should I even do it at all considering it’s never had any major leaks since if owned it? Thanks

I would take it somewhere where you can hoist up the truck and hit the bottom with a pressure washer and some detergent and a bit of scrubbing.

It's not surprising it leaks after 28 years, but it must be annoying to have the burning smell of tranny oil on the exhaust.

Yeah, it wasn’t a major issue but i wanted to get it checked out. I don’t really smell tranny fluid that much. They recommended carpool. I’m thinking about maybe leaving it alone and just keeping up with the fluids.

That's probably a wise decision. Just don't park on your friend's freshly paved driveway.
