Hey Scotty, I want to learn how to ride a bike. Do you know if the Honda ruckus is a good? Bike/scooter?

You'll learn how to ride a scooter, but not a real motorcycle.

From my experience, there is no difference in basic driving skills between a 50ccm motorcycle and a 350ccm one.

It is still better he gets something with smaller engine displacement as a beginner to minimize chances to get hurt or killed. It is easier to learn since it is not so powerful.

Maybe driving skills, but feet flat in front of you and an automatic trans is not riding skills where you need both independant hand-foot coordination with all 4 extremities doing different functions, all while you're paying attention to road conditions and surroundings. It's better to take a course at a community college etc. where a low power motorcycle is provided to learn on and see one can do it.

What I'd recommend (if you are in the US) is going to a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course. They are held all over the place (put in your zip to find one) and they provide a motorcycle/scooter, a helmet and gloves. In several states it is free, in some others it is subsidized so it's only $50.

With a 1 speed automatic transmission and top speed of 40mph it's something you won't be taking on a highway. You'll learn how to ride a scooter, but not a real motorcycle.
