I'm interested in getting the highest-end Hyundai Tucson battery hybrid model (1.8L Turbo engine). They seem to be in high demand. Should I wait for a 2023 model? What's your overall opinion on the new Tucsons?
We are currently not recommending any Hyundai Motor Group products for purchase due to issues with all their vehicles and poor track record for reliability even during the warranty period!

You would be lucky to get 100,000 miles out of either one without major repair expenses, ie, engine and trans. They are disposable vehicles.
(1.8L Turbo engine)
No such thing exists as far as I know.
Generally, with Hyundai - avoid Turbo engines.
If you want a Hyundai hybrid go with a 1.6L NA- although it’s a direct injected Atkinson, apart from weaker timing chains, carbon deposits, and oil consumption if not properly maintained, they seem to be fine.
But quite honestly? I wouldn’t bother with a Tucson hybrid - it looses out to the RAV4 by all parameters.
The last good Hybrid built by Hyundai-Kia was the 1st generation Niro - it was legitimately one of a kind (if you watch out for what years have what manufacturing defect)
I think the new Tucson’s are amazing in terms of what they offer and for the price they offer it. You get more bang for your buck in terms of features.
With that said, it may also cost you more in the long run, because the projected reliability isn’t so great.
If you are willing to test it out for us, and let us know if we are wrong, I would love to finally see another car company give Toyota and Honda a run for their money in terms of reliability.
In terms if comparing apples to apples, what is the difference between the 22 and the 23? I gather the 22 will be cheaper?
