  • Hey Scotty, I’m a big fan! I have a 2005 Prius with 227,000 miles. I get solid turn signals when shifting in reverse, and when I use them the signal opposite to the one I’m using lights up too but dim. I did research and got bad ground wire and flasher relay. Which is most likely?I scanned it with the BlueDriver and no trouble codes. Other than turn signal issue the car runs great. Much appreciated

Possible your turn signal switch could be getting funky to. Do you live in a non corrosive area or do you get alot of rust under the csr on things like calipers, exhaust etc....?

Hi Mr. Thumpy! I Iive up north in Montana where the roads are salted. My turn signals acted up not to long after the snow started to calm down. You think ice could’ve melted and short the circuit to? I have yet to check for rust on those components you suggested . The body doesn’t have any rust and a few scratches on the rear plastic bumper.

Not hard to check your turn signal bulbs and swap the relay. If you don’t want to spend 16 bucks on one look at the others in your block and find one you can swap it with, like AC Clutch, windshield wipers, as long as they’re the same relay. Turn on your hazards and walk around the car. Look for a bulb out, dimmer or brighter than the rest and start there.

PS Salt is a conductor, that’s why in areas like yours Scotty recommends spraying under your car to rinse it off. If salt water managed to get into a bulb socket or the connector to the light yea it can cause shorts.

Thank you mr. Thumpy! turns out it was a bad ground.

Change the relay first I say, they're inexpensive and normally fairly easy to change out

I will definitely try that thanks.

Conal Lane thanks, turns out it was a broken ground wire.
