uneven tire tread wear

I have a 2015 Camry with 56k miles, FWD, 2.5 4cylinder.  just noticed the inside of the driver front tire has substantial tread wear uneven with the rest of the tire.  this problem does not exist on the passenger front tire.  I am going to put new tires on soon and am wondering if I need an alignment done, or if the uneven wear was caused by my neglect to rotate the tires in about the last 20k miles... I have a feeling that's the problem, a mistake I won't make again.  There is no play in the driver front tire (vertical or horizontal) when I tested it.

Thanks all

Don’t change that tire without getting a front end alignment done first, from a reputed front end shop. Obviously, there’s something on that side which is causing the uneven wear. Have some pros look at it first.

I agree with InThrustWeThrust. And also not doing the tire rotation can not do that much issue.

Ok thanks, also when I checked by pulling on the tire (at 12 and 6, 9 and 3) I only had the one tire raised off the ground, would both front tires need to be lifted in order to properly perform this check?

Sounds like alignment, a characteristic/setting called "toe out". Can be a simple adjustment fix, might be more involved. Hard to say for sure without seeing the vehicle.
