I've been using a $30 scanner for a few years, and I want to move up to something better. The ones I am considering are in the $100-$150 range and most require annual paid updates. My question is, will the scanner still function without the updates, will it have limited functionality? My 3 cars are all over 15 years old, so I don't need the latest info for them.
Also, any recommendations for a good cheap scanner?

did you try reading the FAQ, or scrolling down to the bottom of the main page?
