I have 2004 Toyota Camry XLE 2.4L , 2AZ-FE engine with 128,000 miles on it. I had the alternator replaced
After testing the battery, starter and the alternator the store said it was the alternator so i brought it to the shop and they said I needed a new alternator too.
They installed a carquest brand alternator and took out the denso. It works but I noticed I can't plug in a obd2 scan tool now without the car having trouble starting.
Also today it was cold out and the idle speed was so low at cold start that it almost stalled but the rpm's went back up after warming up.
Would anyone know what happened and what needs to be fixed? I am doing the work myself from now on so it's done right and to save money. These garages are con artist and I'm sick of it. Thanks in advance for any tips.
If the problem started after installing the alternator that's the first thing to look at. Load test it and check for AC ripple.
Thanks Chuck. I believe there was a ripple before when I had Autozone use their tool hooked up to the battery. They said there was a ripple. I remember trying to use the obd2 scan tool before that where I had the problem.
Since than I tried the obd2 tool again and same results after alternator replacement. So I can't use a scan tool in the obd2 port until I fix this. Any thoughts?
By the way now the idle speed is at 800 rpms once warmed up. When I first start it about 1300 rpms. If I don't put anything in that port the car runs good. But I should be able to use this port and I have no idea what could cause this problem.
Thank you Chuck. I believe your correct about the wiring. In fact my key fob won't work either. I changed the battery and even used the other key fob with a new battery and still not working. I have to arm the car manually. This has been a problem for about 6 months now.
The idle speed is normal again but the problem will come back if I use the obd2 port...
