Hello Scotty I have a question for you about purchasing a used 2007-2008 4WD Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am pretty mechanical inclined. The car has 3 engine a v8 Hemi, a 3.7L power tech and the rare 3.0L Mercedes v6 turbo diesel. The Diesel engine code is om642. Yes I understand the diesel has it’s own inherent issues, leaking fuel injectors, and failing oil cooler seals. Besides that I have heard the internal parts of the Diesel engine will outlast the other engines by a long shot. What do you think about the diesel?
All those engines have one flaw in common. The transmission on those are horrible, they rarely last past 100-120k.
My father has one and loves it, if you are able to work on them yourself and able to get parts for them, they are reliable and very fuel efficient when they are tuned up right.
I'd say they are the best of both worlds, you want a jeep but you want a fuel efficient vehicle at the same time and able to tow? Here you go!
