Hi Scotty. I've enjoyed and learned from your videos for several years. I am interested in your opinions about buying a used Honda or Toyota (sub)compact SUV (non-turbo, FWD, easy to maintain). I am struggling with a choice.
I am 67 years old and hope to buy only one or two more vehicles in my life. I bought my first car at age 18, and I've owned only 6 cars in my life. I've had good experiences with Hondas and Toyotas, so would like to stick with those brands.
I've learned enough from you to be wary of turbo-charged engines and to be amazed at the Honda 2.0L engine. Yet the recent year Honda CR-Vs (except the hybrids) have 1.5L turbo-charged engines; the HR-Vs have 2.0L ("bullet-proof") engines. I am less informed about Toyota engines and which are comparable to Honda's engines.
My goals: reliability, reliability, reliability, long-life, affordable costs of maintenance. (For example, I learned today that a Honda hybrid battery may not last the life of the car: "Wondering how long hybrid batteries last? Your Honda hybrid battery life expectancy is between 6 to 10 years or up to 100,000 miles. Other Honda hybrid battery options can last a little bit longer for about 10 years or even closer to 150,000 miles."
Replacement costs?: $2000 to $8000, according to https://www.hondauniverse.com/service/service-tips/hybrid-battery-cost/ )
Any suggestions for one who knows little about cars, is tech-averse, and looking for ballpark price of no more than $25,000?! My best guess is to look at used RAV-4s 2018, 2020 to present for non-turbo, FWD models.
All the best,

Well those are all actually very good choice. Now. The Toyota hybrid batteries are known for lasting often $200 to 300,000, MI. But personally I'm kind of leery about buying a used hybrid. Me I'd probably just get a conventional Toyota of whatever size you like. If you like the cross it's smaller or you like the RAV4 that's bigger. It just depends on how much you want to spend and what size you want
