Hey Scotty, I’m looking to buy my first ever pickup truck (I’m 30). I know they’re expensive but am I better off paying for a 2015-17 truck that costs a little more? Or should I get one thats cheaper, older, with more miles (100+) but has the V8 engine?
Love your videos!
Thanks, Jonathan

My 2 cents. I’ve owned all 3 American brand trucks. 6 months ago I bought a 2007 tundra and I’m never going back. The 5.7 is the most powerful engine I have had, it doesn’t rust out like others and it’s built like a tank, God I love it. I paid 13k with the limited/TRD package and 140k miles. My Silverado always felt kind of cheap. My F-150 was ugly and the Dodge blew the tranny. Tundras are hard to find and for good reason.
Sadly Toyota still has frame rot issues. But they do have open recalls for inspection and possible frame replacement.
F150 with 5.0 engines are good.
@heyinway
Thanks!
Yeah love F-150’s but can’t exactly afford a brand new one or a couple years old. Might get an older one
And have something to trade in next time
If you want to get an older truck (2006 or older) I would recommend GMC/Chevrolet they were very solid made in older years. If you would like a newer truck the Toyota Tundra and the Ford F150 with the V8 would be a good choice. If you would like a heavy-duty truck of any year I would recommend Ram and Chevrolet with diesel engines.
Avoid the '18+ F150 with the 5.0L. Ford dropped the ball on the plasma engine liners and they drink oil like nobody's business. You can google the issue.
I loved my '14 Tundra Platinum. Built SOLID. But beware.....that 5.7 V8 drinks gas, especially in town. 13MPG or so can be expected. Running a Volant intake and Corsa Sport exhaust, in was lucky to get 14 MPG. And I drive conservatively.
