hey so I recently found a ram 1500 in my area with 140000 miles on it for a very decnt price and in my area we have rust I didnt see any rot just surface rust but I was wondering what do i need to be on the lookout for it has only one owner and the guy said he is only selling it cause his kids gifted him a new one and his wife wants him to sell it I am a bit skeptical considering I have made a bad purchase before so I dont trust sellers but I noticed a weird smell when it was started that was about it
"One owner" doesn't mean they did or didn't take care of it. The owner should provide verifiable records of maintenance to confirm that they did maintain it properly. It's generally best to take whatever a seller says about any vehicle with a grain of salt unless of course they can prove it. You didn't say what year model the truck was (you tagged it as '08) or the asking price. Regardless, make sure you have an experienced mechanic give the truck a pre-purchase inspection.was wondering what do i need to be on the lookout for it has only one owner and the guy said he is only selling it cause his kids gifted him a new one and his wife wants him to sell it
What Hixter and Chuck said. Also, if it has the 5.7 hemi, do some research on the camshaft and lifter problems. Good luck.

@chucktobias 08 dodge ram 1500 4wd, I dont have the vin. truck has 143000 and I am buying from a private owner who has the truck since 2008 and is the only owner it has some rust above the wheels which is typical here and it was bondo back together. I started it the engine didnt have any weird sounds, and I did smell maybe coolant there is a emission leak I dont remeber the code he said its due to a aftermarket gas cap.
Some red flags there. Don't trust what the seller tells you about codes or anything else. Better have a good mechanic check it out.
