I'm looking at buying a 2008 Rav4 Limited from a Land Rover Dealership. It's an automatic, 140,000kms, leather interior. It is a 4wd which is great for where I live in Canada. It was a trade in from an older couple [it has 7 minor accidents on it] and they are asking $12,400 for the car. Thoughts?
To clarify. It is a clean title, the accidents range from $200-$800 CAD all done on the bumpers front right, and rear. I've been looking at RAV's in this age range for months now and in my area with these kms Rav's are going for minimum $16,000. I am going to be getting my mechanic to check it out.
Oh run away 7 accidents? The car isn't worth your time. Odds are it wasn't taken care of. That is $10,000 US which is DOUBLE what I would pay for it. Also don't get me started on the oil burning issues of the North American spec engines. I actually have a friend with one 70k miles (110k km) and it burns oil and the fix is more than the car is worth if it gets serious, which unfortunetly it does commonly. Now it could just be the older couple didn't know how to drive but took care of it but I wouldn't risk the mechanical wear that results from at least 1 of the 7 accidents. If you want to go further, I would have a mechanic check it out but either way it isn't a reliable car AND it is overpriced.
If it’s the engine which was notorious for oil burning, I’d stay away. Otherwise, have it inspected thoroughly by a good mechanic, before you buy it.
What’s the market rate for that model year? I’d use the accident history as an excuse to lower the price below $10,000, but then again, it’s Canada and the vehicle is low mileage by Toyota standards.

That car is no good becuase it has the oil burning 2.4L engine. you need the 2.5
