Hey Scotty,

I am looking to purchase my first car(used) my budget is no more than $8000. I really like the Volkswagen Tiguan. I know you are not a fan of VW, but if you were to say; what would be the best year model Tiguan that you've seen so far? also any other models you would suggest thats similar to the Tiguan model I should purchase instead?

Do not buy a Tiguan - the 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder engines are quite horrible and they burn a ton of oil as they age. If you want a small crossover-type SUV, look at a Mazda CX-5 or Toyota RAV4. I promise you will be much happier.

Oh yes just what I was looking for I like the Mazda CX-5 thank you so much

I would not buy a Tiguan as they are money pits the worst transmission is the all of the autos manuals are better and the 2.0T is garbage.

Check this site for worst/best years.

Under 8 grand you could get a nice cr-v or rav4 and maybe even a cx-5.

thank you for the answer! I don't want anything that would cost me more money in the long run. I am seeking to buy a car in full to avoid extra expense as much as possible. what model car or suv would you recommend around my budget?

I would consider a 2009-2012 Toyota Rav4 or a Honda CR-V. To check out problematic years, go to carcomplaints.com

I see that you really like the cx-5 if you could find a good one then they are also good scotty has videos on them I would watch them:

How long are you going to keep the car and how many miles are you planning to put on it?  If planning to put lots of mileage (10,000-20,000 miles) each year on this car as a daily driver, I would not get it even if it’s a great deal.  In the long run, it will be a money pit if you plan on keeping it for a while.

Thank you for the answer. Yes indeed I do plan on keeping the car for a long time and use it on the daily. I'am so overwhelmed because the only cars that scotty recommend is Honda and Toyota and I don't like either of those cars. I may go with a 2010 Lexus ES or LS.
