I have recenty buyed a used Volvo S60. It has 115000 miles. It is my first car. Idont know anything about the car. I am from United Kingdom (West Midlands). Every one telling my car will have head gasket and coolant leak sooner. They spotted some oily mist around the outside part of Air inlet hose. So I am a bit frustrated dont know what to do.

Volvo was my favourite so when I see the ad in facebook I didn't check for anything. I am thinking will it be a good idea to keep the car or not?

take it to a mechanic like you should have done before you bought it.

Oil mist can be so many things.

That's a Ford EcoBOOM, not recommended at all.

If you want a Volvo, get either a diesel, a naturally aspirated 2.0, or a T5 engine.

It has nothing to do with he good old 2.0, those used to be Mazda built engines -

same series as the Miata but improved and bulletproofed to deal with oil consumption concerns.

was this a good purchase?

Quite honestly? not really, I'd say it's bellow average.

At least it doesn't have a (PowerShift) dual clutch? if it has that would put it in the "bad decision" category.

The issue is not that the EcoBoom-PowerShift powertrain (Can't post the nickname of the transmission but it has a bit to do with removing a letter) is not that it's unreliable (as in you don't have to repair it too often), it's the sheer cost associated with keeping one alive.

After 100k miles, the pistons get destroyed (requiring an engine overhaul), and then the clutch wears out (requiring a transmission clutch replacement), and then out of nowhere the turbocharger does out, and then suddenly it's stuck in 1st and needs the 'mechatronic' replaced, and each one of these costs thousands.

None of these happen on a T5 with an automatic or a manual, those are just built like bricks.

oily mist around the outside part of Air inlet hose.

Doesn't sound particularly good.

A competent mechanic will have to look at it to give you an accurate assessment.

will it be a good idea to keep the car or not?

I doubt it.

If you want to get a better built Volvo, get a T5 (or an T6) with a conventional automatic or manual and get a mechanic to check it pre-purchase.
