Adding @Dan to the discussion.

is that a 1.2L diesel? I do not have much info on those...

EDIT: Apparently you could get a Bluemotion TSI, and not only a BlueMotion TDI.

Please disregard this commend.

Going forward, please put a brief description of your question in the title. Thanks.

@dan TSI engines are petrol turbocharged ones

at first I though you meant the 1.2L TDI BlueMotion which I have not seen yet. But,

As far as the 1.2L TSI:

The 1.2L TSI label was used both on 8 valve engines with a timing belt under the EA111 family, and as a 16 valve under the EA211 engine family.

The EA111 derived 1.2L was never a great engine, although they weren't terrible - the timing system on those has caused a lot of issues. I do not recommend these, a lot of the valves hit the pistons way before you get any of the symptoms of a stretched timing chains.

As far as the EA211, IMO, these are better built - but they do burn lots of oil, I'd say 500ml/1000km is the average for a 150k km engine. These are high maintenance engines, you have to add oil from time to time, cleaning the exhaust valves from time to time (it's REALLY bad on this model in particular) and you have to replace the timing belt with the water pump on time.

They can last over 200,000km (125,000 miles) but it depends on how you use it.

As far as the DRY DSG7:

As far as the DSG7, it tends to fry it's clutch pack about as fast as a euro Ford PowerShift.

And in a similar fashion to the Powershift, the control mechanism is very unreliable. But unlike Ford's reasonably inexpensive TCM, VW uses a hydraulic mechatronic - it cracks from metal fatigue and costs a fortune to replace.

These last about as much as the engines, but they do often require repairs at under 100,000km. But I must admit recent DSG variants I driven are super nice to drive.

They just don't feel like a dual clutch, In a good way. Unlike PowerShift / EDC / MultiMode / "T-GDI DCT", these actually feel like a better and faster automatic.

In summery:

These aren't terrible, they're just definitely not great. I'd avoid it.

But if you get one, make sure your mechanics know what they're doing.

Thanks wow alot of insight! Guess it a decent enough buy depending on the price! Hence only drive 4k a year/stop and go driving saying goes "GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO" {black}

As scotty always says don't pay too much 💯

Scotty always said in the UK VW is fine as lots of parts but USA 🇺🇸 its a big no no 🙈

Here's one.. and a list of common issues here.

Pretty sure those are 3 cylinder engines which seems .. under-powered.. but for the UK it may be just fine.

Oh nice 😎
