Hi Scotty,
My wife and I want to buy a new Toyota 4Runner but Consumer Report says the new ones are having the rear differential fail within the first year. Would it be smarter to wait for the 2022 model 4Runner in hopes that the rear differential issue to be resolved?
Thank you,
Jeff Alvinson
My dad has toyota 4 runner trd pro and I got my friend 4 runner trd pro both love them. They are fast but gas hog and but fast and good for camping and offroad terrain drive especially on snow and mud
I'd wait for the Generation 6 which I think will be 2023. I have a 2019 and am looking forward to the Gen 6 which I have read may or may not be disappointing. I've read they could have a 4 cylinder engine with a turbo. That's a deal killer for me.
By the way, I have had no rear differential issues with my 2019 but I have not had a chance to put many miles on it. I don't think they changed much. CR doesn't have a good reputation on this forum.
I would not worry about it - take what Consumer Reports says with a grain of salt. I would get the current generation before it’s too late; don’t bother waiting for the new generation as they will move to turbo charged engine with higher gear transmission, plus possible bugs/issues first few years.
