weird whining noise

Hello! I have a 2005 toyota camry v6 and I started it up this morning and I heard a really weird whining noise, almost like it resembles a supercharger noise. it’s the first time i’ve heard this noise on my car and I notice as the car warms up the noise slightly dwindles down, but is still there. It still makes the noise when I drive also, so i’m not sure if it’s safe to drive or not. this is my first car so I would need some advice on what it could be, thank you!

I also have the same car with a 4 cylinder engine. If the noise goes away after a while then i think its normal. Its a 16 year old car. I would just live with it. Its not worth putting money on a old car. Its a toyota, it will really last a long time if you take care of it.

maybe you’re right. I did already invest 2k on the whole pipe system under the car including the catalytic converter and muffler a couple weeks ago and the car ran perfectly until the whining noise today. there was a squeaking noise beforehand though when i started the car so i’m not sure if that has to do with it.

If it’s the water pump that’s whining & you let it be until it breaks, you run the risk of damaging your engine. @shonejoseph123 please copy+paste your response as ‘Your Answer’ below, thanks.

Can you please make a YouTube video of the noise & post the link here?

Check all you fan belts, pulleys and tensioners.

Sounds like a bearing about to let loose on the idler/tensioner pulley. Had to replace the pulley & serpentine belt when the pulley seized.
