What are your thoughts on 1997 Buick Skylark Custom - 2.4 L Twin Cam, 4 speed automatic

So, I'm a lot like Scotty.  I'm cheap.  I like cheap cars.

I'm a lab courier, and its normal for me to put 1500-2000 miles on a car in a week.

So when I came across a 1997 Buick Skylark with only 54,000 miles on it in January 11th, I bought it for $1500.  It was a garage kept car with no rust on it, but had been sitting for years. I have since put another $2500 into it (I have to pay a mechanic).  $1200 of that was when I initially bought it.  Replaced a motor mount, control arms and bushings, new front brakes and rotors, rear brakes, and a couple of tires.

I took it on for an Italian tune up, and then changed the oil again after 1000 miles just because it sat so long.

Replaced the fuel filter just because the thing is 23 years old.

It lost it's original alternator around 63,000 miles, and that time we put in a new tensioner pully and drive belt as well. I blame this on being 23 years old, plus GM alternators are not the best as they age.

Recently changed transmission fluid and put in new spark plugs.

It shifts even better than before now, and seems like it's never run so well.

Today it is just shy of 75,000 miles.

I'm just going to keep running it until the tranny burns out.

What do you think of it's prospects?

Any issues on these that you know of that I should be on the look out for?

They weren't the best cars, but they could be ok knock around prospects. For your job/mileage needs though I think it may be insufficient.

But only time will tell. It is low mileage, but you still have a lot of aged parts on that car and sitting for extended periods is the worst thing for a vehicle to do.

I probably should have mentioned that I've already made about 7x my money back doing trips with this car since January, so I'm freerolling with it.

Well you can't complain about that. I'm happy to hear it and if you are working to help in any way with the Covid pandemic I definitely appreciate your efforts and thank you for them as well. I hope it keeps serving you well.
