Hello everyone I hope you are all well. I have a 2006 GX470 in very good condition. I need cash at the moment for a project and my car can be sold for good cash at the moment. It has been very reliable car. I am looking at a 2001 LX470 done about 245,000 miles in Top Condition well taken care off and there will be a difference of about 1000-2000$ from my car but I am worried of high maintenance and cost of repairs of LX, or will it be comparable to my GX? Keep in mind my GX has done about 282,000 miles. And what are other good SUV alternatives? I am also considering old Tahoe, escalade, and yukon (2000-2006), Infiniti Qx56 2009-2010, Expedition/ Navigator (2007-2011)
The tahoes and you can we're good when they were still made in the USA up until I believe 2000
A lot of the escalades tended to have electrical issues
- I would stay away from any Nissan product
- Your best bet is probably the 2007 to 2000 11 Expedition will also probably be relatively cheap
Better the devil you know...
Yeah sure you could sell your current car, then buy a similar car for a few thousand less, just for that old (new to you), high millage car to spin a bearing. Now you're in the red.
I mean lets take a step back: You're looking to get a 22 year old car with almost 250k miles in efforts to save $1-2k?
Unless your current car is falling apart, id definitely keep that, and find this extra money another way.
Of your list of cars id say a tahoe/yukon between 2000-2006, their trans usually only last 150k miles and have some electrical short comings (gauge clusters failing is common) but other than that they can go for a long time.
Wow! Those are a lot better built in the American ones. I wouldn't even compare them. But with that kind of high mileage, you never know what's going to break down. And you're buying a used one from someone else. You don't know if they maintain them like you did. That's the only problem of switching out
The LX will get worse gas mileage, and the engine had less horsepower because those early years were not tweaked out.
If you have kept up with maintenance on your GX, you are better off keeping it than rolling the dice on an older LX.
Some of the older suburban, yukon, etc were good cars, but again, you are risking more money buying a mystery car than sticking with what you got.
Keep the GX.
Thank you all for your comments and recommendations!
