Purchased 2022 Highlander: during the wrestling match with finance dude, was told the car was being detailed for delivery.
A week later, gave it its first wash. Used Meguires Gold Wash, a microfiber wash mitt, microfiber drying cloths and softened water. Washed in the shade and dried in the garage.
The finish, following thorough rinsing, had a mottled appearance and the drying cloth dragged and had a dark, dirt-like residue on it. Chrome trim was covered with a cosmoline-like smearing as did all the windows. I went to a spray wand pressure wash facility and redid the washing process.
What are dealerships using to “detail” new cars?
One of the most realistic portrayals of stealerships around! 😆
Shows them as the sad, pathetic, predatory, transparent liars they are. Love it.
Typical!
They usually have a $5 per hour teenager spray the car down with WD40 to make it look shiny.
The mercedes dealership next to me uses "commercial dish detergent and hand soap", I guess WD-40 is too expensive for those guys.
Depends on the dealer.
Most big chains just run the car through their car wash and dry it.
All vehicles I sell are hand washed, waxed, clay-barred, and hand dried. But...I'm not selling Honda Civics either.
Still, I'd like for the big dealers to at least not use the neglected touch washes that they do. I can tell you for certain they don't maintain them as they should.
They are "soaking" the customer.
Good one Glen_stet!
Back in the day, looking at a car's price sticker, I noticed "ADP - $1500". I asked the salesman what the ADP was, and he said, "Additional Dealer Profit". I almost fell on the floor - an honest answer from a care salesman.!
During the match with the finance dude, I questioned a $349 “document fee”. I asked why the person taking my docs to the DMV was being paid more than the average lawyer. He said he ‘couldn’t remove’ the fee. There was also a $82.75 electronic filing fee which he removed upon my questioning why an email or fax costs that much. Finally got him to reduce the vehicle price by $349 and I let the doc fee stand. He did it because he was tiring of reprinting the sales invoice, I presume.
